Mal is an accomplished actor and artist. A student of theater arts at the prestigious New York University, she has produced and starred in her own off-off-Broadway play by the time she turned 20. Add to her accomplishments the fact that the play was produced by the theatre company she started called Beauty4Ashes. She definitely knows how to put her best foot forward and make things happen, and even in spite of a struggle with the West Nile virus, she continuously has proven herself to be savvy and competent in all sorts of ways, including her shopping sensibilities. From designer clothes to the smart and sensible, Mal knows how important it is to have the right style for every situation, and is committed to getting the look down just right no matter what it takes.

Val is a prolific artist in her own right, having run her own flourishing art design business through Directly From the Heart, Inc.® and StickingToBusiness.com for almost 20 years. Having grown up in the penny-pinching days of the post-depression, she learned to make great fashion finds over and over without breaking the bank. She always wanted to look good, but it was her daughter and business partner, Megan, who lovingly and relentlessly pulled Val’s sense of fashion into the 21st century.

In the spring of 2008, Megan lost her battle with adrenal cancer, but not before making Val promise to never skimp on looking good at all times. Megan passed the baton as fashion consultant to Mal, whose mother, Iris, is Val’s best friend. Val has a few years on Mal, and while they have different fashion philosophies, together they quickly discovered that their tastes more than coincided. They loved all the same things – not the least of which were their Teacup Maltese puppies, Winnie and Sophie.

With such similar tastes, Mal and Val together began to explore and perfect the ins-and-outs of shopping for clothes – from low-cost to high-fashion – and so La Vie Cherie was born!
